Sunday in the Garden! 3/8/2020

Updated: Jan 24, 2022

Hello! This is my first blog post for Sunday in the Garden! Tim and I couldn't be more excited for our 2020 Garden! 2019 brought us validation from the Champaign County Fair after winning 6 ribbons including 2 Grand Champion winners for our Grilled Peach Salsa (a Tiger Family recipe) and our Squash Relish. Turns out, folks like our salsas, pickles, and jellies. In all, we have 37 products including 10+ varieties of salsas, 10+ varieties of pickles, and 10+ varieties of jellies.

And, in 2019, we made an important business decision: we're only going to sell in Farmer's Markets and online. We were approached by Harvest Market, and I had visions of being in every grocery store in the country, but in order to produce the volume to do that, we would have to outsource our vegetables. I love being able to say, "We grew everything (or at least 90% of it) in our garden!" We have raised beds all around the house and 1 20' x 30' plot at Parkland College for the things that crawl, like squashes and melons.

Today, we set the clocks forward and therefore have more daylight! I planted seeds and can't wait to get everything in the ground. Spring is right around the corner! And with it brings warmer days ahead. Sing with me, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!"

*NOTE* This blog entry (my first!) was posted just two weeks before Illinois shut down on 3/20/20. We had NO idea at the time what was about to happen, which helps explain my sporadic posting. It's now January of 2022, we're on year three of this pandemic, and I have committed to posting weekly. My new word for 2022 is Intention. I intend on posting weekly!
